Amesbury Group - About Us
Amesbury Group is a Division of Lupus Capital, Lupus Capital located in London, England. Laird acquired Amesbury Industries, Inc. (located in Amesbury, Massachusetts) in 1981.
In 1985, Amesbury Industries invented a closed cell, TPE foam weather seal that came to be known as the Foam-Tite® line. As time has passed, this location has come to be called the Foam-Tite® division. The Foam-Tite® division continues to offer a product with a high level of performance and design flexibility. In 1985 Laird acquired Plastics Profiles-PPI, which had been originally established in 1978, located in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. PPI offers high quality custom thermoplastic extrusions specializing in multi-durometer profiles and quick turn-around custom solutions.
In 1990, under the direction of Laird Group, the textile or pile division was moved south to a facility in Statesville, North Carolina. This facility came to be known as the Textile Division. The Textile plant has continued the tradition of offering quality weather stripping to their customers. In addition, the Textile Division has expanded their line to include an extruded pile weather stripping line which includes extruder grade pile. Recently, an antimicrobial product has been added to their line of products.
In 1993, Amesbury Industries became known as Amesbury Group
BSI-Balance Systems was acquired by the Amesbury Group, and provides a block & tackle balance that fits into the jamb-liner for single and double hung windows. BSI was founded in 1975 and is located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In 1998, BSI-Balance Systems established a plant in Statesville, NC to help with our East Coast market. BSI Statesville is dedicated to supplying a "one stop shop" of components for windows and door. Also, in 1998, BSI acquired JW Window Components in Sioux Falls, SD; Merrill, WI; and Elizabethton, TN.
The growth of the Amesbury Group did not stop at the border of the United States. A Canadian based Constant Force Balance company's product line was added to the Group under the BSI-Balance Systems division and provides customers world-wide with "Omega" constant force balances for single and double hung windows. BSI-Balance Systems, Omega product line also opened another facility in Statesville, NC, bringing the total BSI-Balance Systems location count to five facilities by 2004. In 2005, the North Carolina facility was expanded to allow for added production of constant force balances in the US.
In 2000, Amesbury Group acquired Fastek/Midwest Molding Products based in Canton, SD. The company is a zinc die cast manufacturer for the door and window industry and brings a 20 year reputation for quality products to the Amesbury Group. This division provides fenestration products to the industry and other Amesbury Group companies under the name of Fastek Products.
Also located in Sioux Falls, SD is the Door Hardware facility. Formerly known as Sash Controls, Amesbury Group added this sliding and swing patio door hardware division in 2001. The plant was originally located in Ferndale, MI where it was founded by the Clancy family to produce window and patio door hardware. In 2003, Amesbury group moved the operations to Canton, SD to take advantage of vertical integration and company resources. In 2003, Door Hardware introduced a whole new line of patio door hardware. With the growth and success of this division, the Amesbury Group dedicated a new management team in 2004, and continues to offer new patio door hardware designs to it?s product mix. With the growth in 2004, this division also moved to a larger facility in Sioux Falls, SD in January of 2005 and again in June 2006. In September of 2005, Amesbury Group acquired Builder's Hardware in Buellton, California. With the addition of this facility, the Door Hardware division was able to add to it's sliding patio door offering and expand it's production capabilities with the two locations.
In January of 2004, Amesbury Group added a distribution and manufacturing facility in Reno, NV, which operates under the name of Western Division. The Reno, NV facility warehouses and distributes products from all Amesbury Group companies to provide better service to customers located on the West Coast. In addition, the Western Division manufactures block & tackle balances for BSI-Balance Systems.
In March of 2006, Amesbury Group added Bandlock, a multi-durometer extruder and coupler manufacturer based in Ontario, California. This new facility is operated as part of the Plastic Profiles-PPI division which is based in Cannon Falls, MN. This addition on the West Coast provides for additional capacity and expanded product offering.
Balance UK, a spiral balance manufacturer in Martock, Somerset in the United Kingdom, was also acquired by the Amesbury Group in March of 2006. Balance UK will become part of BSI-Balance Systems management team, and offers additional types of window balances to the already impressive block & tackle and constant force balance line-up currently offered by BSI.
In April of 2007, Lupus Capital finalized the acquisition of the Laird Securities Divisions, which includes US based Amesbury Group. Amesbury Group complements Lupus Capital's existing Schlegel Building Products US activities and additionally offers a potential for selling Amesbury through Schlegel's extensive international distribution network.
